Inspired by his desire to help ordinary consumers like him realize the promise of technology, Simon Wilby — autodidact, inventor, solar power advocate — invented several solar-powered devices that can better people’s lives. To highlight the “smart-ness” of these inventions that he churned out over the last few years, Simon Wilby founded a company and called it The Smart Power, Inc.. Quite fittingly, he established it in the sunny island-nation of Barbados.

For example, “The Sail One” and “The Smart Bulb” are only two among these smart products which Simon Wilby hopes to develop, market and sell through The Smart Power, Inc. — a company he manages as CEO. To market The Sail One, he has designed a package of incentives to enable individual governments to make use of his product. The Sail One is a very cost-effective solar-powered street lamp which is projected to save governments on money that they could channel for other projects and will be a huge financial boon to them. Another product is The Smart Bulb. Based on “perpetual motion” technology, it is a self-charging light bulb. LED (“Light-Emitting Diode) technology is the basis of both The Sail One and The Smart Bulb. LED-lighting is smart, safe and environmentally-friendly way, according to Simon Wilby.

For people on-the-go who need extreme portability in their computing needs computer manufacturers have created laptops and notebooks. However, only 6 to 8 hours of battery life is the maximum that can be had by a laptop owner, such as, Simon Wilby. And that’s talking about the state-of-the-art in laptop technology.

Simon Wilby is one of those businessmen who requires more than 8 hours on his machine, though he is not always within the reach of a wall-socket. This inspired the inventor in Simon Wilby, founder and CEO of The Smart Power, Inc. to make use of solar power to keep his laptop full of juice. The businessman in him was inspired to develop laptop juice that will keep on running and outlast laptop users themselves. This eventually became “The Smart Juice.” The idea behind The Smart Juice came from the solar-powered lithium battery for cell phones which he also invented and which The Smart Power, Inc. is selling as “The Smart One.”

Simon Wilby designed The Smart Juice — which is a bunch of solar panels — to be retrofitted at the back of laptop screens. The power port is connected to the solar panel by teeny-tiny wires. The standard retrofit time for his other inventions is less than 30 seconds which also applies to The Smart Juice.

The maximum number of juice hours that can be enjoyed by owners of laptops today is 6 to 8 hours. Yet 6 to 8 hours does not account for unforeseen circumstances like being stuck in an airport indefinitely, or the lack of a wall-socket for miles around. That seems to run counter to the function of laptops, which were created for people on-the-go.

As a businessman who often requires more than 8 hours of computer time, Simon Wilby understands this problem and saw this as an opportunity. How to develop laptop batteries while keeping in mind that laptop makers manufacture laptops and batteries as a package is a challenge, especially since laptop makers have developed niche markets of their own. As an inventor who seeks to make technology work better, Simon Wilby created the perfect solution to this problem: “The Smart Juice.”

Simon Wilby, currently CEO of The Smart Power, Inc. took his idea for solar-powered batteries for cell phones called “The Smart One” one step further when he developed the same idea for laptops. The Smart Juice is a bunch of solar panels that can be retrofitted at the back of laptop screens connected to a power port by microscopic wires. With The Smart Juice, Simon Wilby hopes to maximize all the possibilities for mobility of laptops.

Laptop owners can enjoy a maximum of 6-8 hours of juice hours depending on the laptop model. Unexpected circumstances, however, like getting stuck in a place where there is no wall-socket for miles around have been known to stretch beyond 8 hours. Since laptops are intended for people who are always on-the-go, this contradicts the function of laptops: mobility.

A self-taught inventor and entrepreneur named Simon Wilby devised The Smart Juice as a solution to this problem. It was a challenge for Simon Wilby since laptop makers manufacture laptops and their batteries as a package, cornering the market in laptop-manufacturing. He created a value-added in his product by making it solar-powered and by ensuring that it can fit any laptop model in use today.

Like Simon Wilby’s “The Smart One” — a solar-powered battery for cell phone being sold by his company, The Smart Power, Inc. — The Smart Juice is so thin, light and inconspicuous that a laptop owner would hardly notice a difference pre and post-installation. It is composed of solar panels inserted behind the laptop screen connected via microscopic wires to the power port. Under 30 seconds is the retrofit-time. Enhancing all the possibilities for mobility of laptops, Simon Wilby’s The Smart Juice will change how people see and use their laptops.
